it was a lovely walk. a few people about, walking the dog, building a snowman, trying out a new pressie.

birthday in Fife

A friend of mine moved to a wee place in Fife a couple of years ago. I often visit, and this was a special visit being my birthday in full sunshine! My friend has been looking for a lochan, where apparently you can swim, for some time, and on this day we decided to set out to find it, having first agreed to turn back if the walk seemed too long or boring! It was about 6.30 when we set off. My sister phoned me from America while we were contemplating the view and local cows! it seemed surreal to speak to someone across the world on a small device, standing in the middle of nowhere, but it was great to speak to her and she doesnt sound at all American! Eventually we arrived at an old steading, where you either turned back because you thought you might be going into someone's farm, or you carried on along the track because there were sounds of splashing and laughter up ahead. Obviously we followed the splashing and laughter. ...

Almost another year goes by before I suddenly get the urge to blog. Many ups and downs and waters under bridges - that Mull holiday seems an age ago. However the core of that Mull gang have planned a week in a brilliant house by Drumnadrochit at the end of this month, probably be freezing but good to get away. So I was thinking today, after having let next door's cat out of my flat and seen it was welcomed home by my neighbour who is ill with the flu, and i thought suddenly of my cat. My then partner got her for me when our baby boy died, in the '70s. She was only about 6 weeks old, and our other cat was quite keen to eat her - or something - so I slept on the kitchen floor (the days of coal fires in kitchens!) with her tucked into my shoulder and the other cat tucked into the back of my bent knees. When he thought I was asleep he'd stealthily start to creep up to the kitten. I didn't sleep much those first weeks. They grew to be inseparable and had...
